Background of the Study
Soba Local Government Area (LGA) in Kaduna State, like many other parts of northern Nigeria, faces significant challenges related to income inequality. Geopolitical factors, including the region's historical political landscape, ethnic diversity, and resource allocation, have played a key role in shaping patterns of wealth distribution. Income inequality in Soba has been exacerbated by geopolitical tensions, competition for scarce resources, and inconsistent policy implementation at both local and state levels (Usman & Lawal, 2024). This study will investigate how these geopolitical factors contribute to income inequality in Soba LGA, examining the role of regional political dynamics, governance practices, and resource distribution in shaping economic disparities within the region.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite various poverty alleviation programs, Soba LGA continues to experience high levels of income inequality. Geopolitical factors such as ethnic and political rivalries, disparities in resource allocation, and limited access to economic opportunities have contributed to this inequality. This study aims to explore how these geopolitical factors contribute to income inequality in Soba LGA and provide recommendations for addressing the root causes of these disparities.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  • To examine the impact of political and ethnic rivalries on income inequality in Soba LGA.

  • To assess the role of local governance and policy decisions in influencing income distribution.

  • To identify strategies for reducing income inequality through more equitable resource allocation and governance reforms.

1.4 Research Questions

  • How do political and ethnic rivalries contribute to income inequality in Soba LGA?

  • What role do local governance practices play in exacerbating or mitigating income inequality?

  • How can regional governance reforms address the causes of income inequality in Soba LGA?

1.5 Research Hypothesis

  • Geopolitical factors, such as ethnic and political rivalries, contribute significantly to income inequality in Soba LGA.

  • Local governance decisions regarding resource distribution are a major factor in perpetuating income inequality in the region.

  • Policy reforms aimed at equitable resource distribution can reduce income inequality in Soba LGA.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will provide valuable insights into the geopolitical causes of income inequality in Soba LGA and propose practical solutions for policymakers to reduce economic disparities in the region. The findings could inform the design of more inclusive economic policies and resource allocation strategies (Usman & Lawal, 2024).

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the impact of geopolitical factors on income inequality in Soba LGA, Kaduna State. Limitations include the availability of data on income distribution and challenges related to political sensitivities in the region.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

  • Geopolitical Causes: Political, economic, and social factors influenced by regional and national power dynamics.

  • Income Inequality: The uneven distribution of income among individuals or groups within a specific area.

  • Soba Local Government Area: A region in Kaduna State characterized by significant ethnic and political diversity, impacting wealth distribution (Usman & Lawal, 2024).
